July 2009

The project management group at Chalmers, Collins & Alwell, Inc (CCA) recently completed a two year drilling and completion program for McMoRan Oil & Gas as part of the Mound Point/Flatrock exploratory/development projects located in state and federal waters of the South Marsh Island Block 212/217 area.

The group drilled four HPHT wells to depths ranging from 17,684’ to 21,056’.  All four wells were drilled consecutively utilizing the newly constructed posted barge rig Coastal 22.  CCA provided the office engineering and rig site supervision services for both the drilling and completion phases of each well.

CCA personnel manned the rig during the final stages of its construction at the SEMCO shipyard in Crown Point, LA and assisted in final load testing of the rig prior to acceptance by McMoRan.  The initial well drilled with the rig reached a depth of 21,056’ and was cased for completion at a later date.  The three subsequent wells were completed and flow tested prior to release of the rig.  Two of the wells were completed with 4-1/2” tubing and flow tested at over 100 MMCFPD each.  The third well to be completed was unloaded at over 20 MMCFPD prior to being shut in for installation of production facilities.

These four wells were drilled to total depth averaging ~145 ft/day.  The wells were drilled utilizing oil base mud encountering mud weights and downhole temperatures in excess of 18.7 ppg and 350°F respectively.  Each well was drilled using rotary steerable and solid expandable tubular technology and incorporated NACE design standards into the tubular program.
